AUDUBON ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS (AES) was contracted by Superior Energy to review and evaluate the use of Poseidon as a Floating Production Offloading (FPO) unit. Please see attachment AES report (Arctic Challenger Re-purpose Processing Capabilities). Below AES´s report´s conclusions:
5.0 REPORT CONCLUSION
Audubon Engineering Services (AES) was asked to determine the potential production
capacity of the Arctic Challenger (ACS) Now POSEIDON) if the vessel was used as a floating production
vessel. AES developed the Arctic Challenger Capacity chart shown in Attachment 2 as a
means to show the potential capacity of the facility as a function of crude oil API gravity
and gas-to-oil ratio (GOR). AES also developed a list of required and potential
modifications to achieve the capacity for the production equipment, the flare system and
instrumentation. A list of potential limitations for the facility was also developed. Overall
the capacity chart indicates that the ACS system has potential to produce significant
volume of crude oil. It may be necessary to add some pieces of equipment and modify
the existing production system, but AES has not identified anything insurmountable at
this time. (Complete report in attachment. Arctic Challenger Re-purpose…”)
CERTIFICATION TO HANDEL CORROSIVE CRUDE H2S (NACE 0175/0103) :
A main concern was to know if the barge processing equipment was design to handle sour crud oil. Processing Module (ACP01; see barge´s drawings in Link # 3) was designed and built using piping, flanges, valves and containers that comply with NACE MR 0175 /0103. NACE (Nomenclature Statistique des Activités Economiques dans la Communauté Européenne: numbers used for all industries and service activities in the European Union). Documentation included in Link #1 (below), shows certificates for materials alloys, mechanical properties and NACE MR 0175/0103 certificates for all materials used in the Processing Module ACP01. Information included in Link # 1 :
POSEIDON barge(EX-Arctic Challenger) is a Floating Production and Offloading (FPO) system with capacity to separate, oil from sweater, gas and sweater. Sea wáter can be dumped clean to the sea (EPA standard), gas incinerated by a flare (onboard), and oil transferred to a tanker or to a pipe.
The barge has a mooring positioning system with 8 anchors made by ACE WINCHES from UK, accommodations for 74 people (Coast Guard /ABS Arctic certify), ABS certify Electric Generator system of 5 Caterpillar generator with a total of 4 MW capacity, two cranes (EC1000 / 160,600 # and EC65 / 22,000 #) manufactured by Sparrows, ROV XP25, by SMD Hydrovision Ltd (UK) for 3000 meters. Please see photos and detailed specifications included.
This barge can be use to start production of new offshore field
POSEIDON (EX-ARCTIC CHALLENGER) has two possible main applications: (a). As an Artic Containment System (ACA) and (b). As a Floating Production and Offloading system (FPO).
I. Artic Containment System (ACA),
The POSEIDON barge was originally design as a quick response to contain an offshore well blowout. The processing units (APCO1/ APCO2) can receive a mix flowing from a well (oil, seawater and gas), process it, separating seawater (send it back to the sea), the gas (which is incinerated with a Flare Boom), and the oil that can be transferred to a storage deposit (a tanker ship or an oil tank deposit) or incinerated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKDaBtRfyeo
II. Floating Production and Offloading system (FPO)
Because its capacity to process an incoming mix of oil/gas/seawater form an oil well (offshore or inland), it can also be used as a Floating Production and Offloading system (FPO) for a deep-water offshore well (more than 1000 feet), or a shallow water new well(s). Please see in attachment "Poseidon FPSO-PROCESSING CAPACITY"
The barge is certify (see attachments) to operate in CHUKCHI and BEAUFORT seas of Alaska.
REPSOL and ARMSTRONG ENERGY, as you may know, just found a 1.2 billion BBL in the North Slope of Alaska, close to shore, right in front of Beaufort Sea, (see attachment), where the POSEIDON barge is certify to operate in those waters.
The POSEIDON can offer support in the start phase of exploitation of new discovery of oil/gas in the Arctic, or any other offshore oil/gas field in the world e.g., Nigeria.
Support POSEIDON can offer to a new operation:
1. Leaving quarters for 72 people, fully certify for Alaska. See Module # 3 (attachment)
2. Power plant 4,395 KW capacity, ABD certify to operate in Alaska. See Module # 4 (attachment)
3. Diesel storage in the barge
4. Processing units APCO1 and APCO2. The mix (oil/gas/seawater) flowing from the inland wells (close to shore) can be process by the APCO 1/APCO2 Modules. See Modules # 7 and 8 (attachment).
5. Mooring capacity (8 anchors), designed and certify to keep in position the barge. Allows the barge to stay in position close to shore (low draft). See Module # 2 (attachment)
