Saul Trader is a much admired replica 70ft Dutch Luxemotor built in 1990 by RW Davis of Saul, Gloucester. It was designed and built for the then owner of the yard by master boatbuilder Phil Trotter. The superb lines and hull sheer has resulted in many people mistaking it for a traditional Dutch built craft. I bought it in 1998. and took it from Gloucester across the Channel to Calais, travelled through most of Belgium and Holland and covered most of the French system before venturing to the south via the River Rhone. Saul Trader is fitted out in afromosia (an African hardwood with a similar appearance to mahogany), and teak. There are three cabins, two with ensuite bathrooms, a large saloon and spacious fore deck. Saul Trader is powered by a 6 cylinder 128hp Ford CS6 engine marinised by Lister. There is a 500 gallon diesel fuel tank which pumps into a 30 gallon day tank. Auxilary equipment include a Lister Petter LPWS3 8kva generator, and Vetus bow-thrusters. The vessel’s hot water and central heating systems are supplied by a calorifier/Webasto system feeding 7 radiators, with four 100 gallon fresh water tanks. Navigation equipment, includes an Icom VHF, Garmin GPS, Echo Sounder, Hand Bearing Compass, and control panel. The electrical systems consist of 12v, 24v & 240v, a Victron Multiplus 24v sine wave Inverter, two starter batteries, six brand new 110amp leisure & one 12v generator start battery. A Lister Petter LPWS3 powers an 8kva generator. Navigation equipment includes an Icom VHF, Garmin GPS, Echo Sounder, Hand Bearing Compass, and control panel. The bilge system consists of an electrically operated pump clutch that is controlled from the wheelhouse. There are 5 individual valves for each section of the boat - fore peak, midships(2), aft section and engine room. The pump can also be configured to supply canal water for a deck wash. The galley is equipped with a four-ring hob, a 12v fridge, and a microwave oven, complemented by attractive tiled worktops. There is a spacious saloon, with three seater, double and single armchairs. The vessel sleeps six across three cabins, including a master suite with a fixed double bed, a seating area, and a private ensuite. The second cabin also offers a fixed double bed and ensuite, while the third cabin features two single bunks. There are three bathrooms, two with automatic pump-out toilets and showers, and a main bathroom with a manual pump-out toilet and vanity basin. Ancillary equipment includes an Avon inflatable dinghy with a Mariner 4 outboard motor, deck anchor winch, 2 x Turfer winches , spare anchor, spare mooring lines and ropes, deck chairs, life jackets, swimming ladder, dehumidifier, and Sunbrella wheelhouse winter cover. Saul Trader has an ES-TRIN certificate valid until 2029, with the hull blacked in 2022. The boat is currently moored in Toulouse in Port Sud at Ramonville Sur Agne.
