Svanen is a steel replica Dutch Barge built for us by Piper (UK) at the end of 2018. We have lived on it permanently for nearly four years, but we are now selling for health reasons. We are currently moored at Chatel Censoir on the lovely Nivernais canal about 40 km south of Auxerre.
The boat is 17.36 m long by 3.80 m wide with a fixed wheelhouse (air draught 2.85m). Draught is 0.95 m. It has two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a 1.50 m wide bed, with storage beneath and many cupboards and wardrobes and an ensuite bathroom with spacious shower, washbasin and macerator toilet. The second bedroom has been fitted out as an office but could take two single beds. There is a second bathroom which is a “wet room” also with shower, washbasin and macerator toilet.
The living room has large windows, a diesel-fuelled Refleks stove and a TV fed by an automatic foldaway Oyster satellite dish.
The fully-equipped kitchen has fridge, freezer, microwave, four-ring gas hob, gas oven, half-size dishwasher and full-size washer-dryer.
The central heating is powered by a Kabola diesel boiler (the 1,000-litre heater fuel tank is separate from that for the engine so red diesel can be used where available). There are four radiators and two heated towel rails. Hot water is produced by the boiler or by the one kw Vetus immersion heater and also when the boat is under engine power.
The freshwater tank holds 1,400 litres while the black tank holds 1,000 litres.
The wheelhouse has a fold-down dining table and two bench seats which convert into a double-bed. The rear doors open up completely onto the after deck. Lifting one of the bench seats in the wheelhouse also gives access to the soundproofed engine room. The boat is equipped with a nine-inch SIMRAD chartplotter also giving rudder position and depth information. It is also equipped with AIS and VHF radio.
The engine is a keel-cooled Beta Marine 105CV that has done 846 hours. The engine diesel tank holds 600 litres. Steering is hydraulic while the bowthruster is electric.
There is a five kw Kohler generator and four 100w solar panels controlled by a Victron 12v system including a Quattro 12/300/120 inverter, 3600w isolating transformer and colour control panel.
There are six S12-230 AGM 12v domestic batteries, one Varta M8 170 AGM 12v engine starter battery and two Varta M8 170 AGM 12v bowthruster batteries.
