Aigues Mortes Languedoc-Roussillon France|
Dutch steel motor cruiser for sale in France. Designed by Henk Lunstroo and built in 1978 by Henry Engelaers yard (renowned for quality bespoke yachts) her pedigree is still evident today. She oozes charm of a bygone era yet is bright, practical and comfortable.
We were first attracted to her as she has a king-sized double island berth aft, 2 marine toilets, 2 showers, owner’s suite aft (well away from guests fwd), and the side decks are not too high above the ‘standard’ pontoon height (the ‘boss’ having just had a knee replacement) and, finally, she has a large and ‘clear’ foredeck with good guard rails at a decent height. With her powerful hydraulic bow thruster and large rudder (which turns to 90 degrees to port & to Starboard), she is easy to operate by two people.
In 2013 we embarked upon an extensive refurbishment programme. The wiring systems were totally updated and extensively re-wired, all mechanical systems, (engine, generator, steering gear, cooling systems, central heating etc) were checked over and serviced as appropriate, the steel wheelhouse was removed and replaced with folding windows and a collapsible hood thereby reducing the air draft to just 2.70 m. allowing access to the full length of the Canal du Midi and onwards to Bordeaux from the Rhone. We also carried out extensive interior upgrades at the same time, such as replacing the toilets in each of the Heads/Toilet compartments, to ensure, as far as possible and practical that we would not experience equipment/mechanical/electrical failure whilst cruising in Europe. After this very comprehensive re-fit carried out in the UK we cruised from Honfleur to Bordeaux via the Seine, Canal du Centre, Saone, Rhone, Canal du Midi and Canal Lateral a la Garonne.
She is extremely manoeuvrable and ‘well mannered’; she is also equally at home cruising at sea. LED lighting now installed almost everywhere. The crane aft makes handling the tender, outboard & bicycles easy. A classic motor cruiser ideally suited to extended holidays or full time live aboard she is a stylish and practical choice for cruising the inland waterways of Europe, the Med & beyond.

Jo de Mer was designed as a 'one off' for the original owner and was built as a 'small ship', as such she is extremely well crafted with great attention detail. For example she is surrounded on the exterior by 2 solid stainless steel rubbing strakes, the teak where used throughout is 'proper' solid teak including the deck, the rails, there are 'storm covers' for the fwd scuttles etc etc.
The steel wheelhouse was removed and replaced with armoured glass folding windows which were specially engineered to be easily raised and lowered, thereby increasing her accessibilty to European Inland Waterways.
There are two huge lazarettes fore and aft, the aft being alongside the crane, as well as a further lazarette under the Galley floor.

The 130hp Daf Engine is entered through a watertight door, there is extremely good access all round - engine checks and filter changes are therefore easy. The sound proofing of the whole engine room is of a very high insultation standard. The engine was thoroughly overhauled in 2013. The gear box is a 'Twin Disk' (it has a trolling throttle as well). Hydraulic Bow Thruster.
There is a fwd 'machinery space' for the 8Kva Vetus Generator, Webasto Central Heating and the domestic water pump system.
