Dutch Barge DWL3 size 15,65 x 3,80 m from 1929. Converted 1995 - 2001 .
The hull was constructed by Concordia Seijmonsbergen from Amsterdam and part of a serie of 7 potable water boats for the Rotterdam Harbour.
One owner since 1995.
The boat was designed for cruising the European waterways. It is small enough to find a place in every harbour and big enough for comfortable living.
When I found the hull in 1995 the boat was in its original state with 4 watertanks, a very small pilot house and a Brons 2AE 40 pk 800 rpm engine.
We brought the ship with the help of a 100 tons crane close to our house and spent the next 6 years converting her.
We asked the well known dutch ship architect Martin Bekebrede to make a design with a large wheelhouse for panoramic view.
He succeeded in designing a beautiful lined ship while keeping a maximum of original details.
The conversion was made with the help of a professional shipbuilder, a mecanic and a retired carpenter and took us 6 years to finish. Only high quality materials were used.
The engine was replaced by a completely overhauled DAF 575 engine with Bosch fuel injection pump and a PRM 4 to 1 hydraulic gearbox. The original Reintjes gearbox was 2 to 1 so the original propellor could be re-used.
The engine has now run 1515 hours.
A Kubota/Stamford 1500 rpm 18 kW generator unit was installed and is used to drive the 10 pk bowthruster and in case there is no shore power also for cooking. There is no gas installation on board.
Both the main engine and generator are each cooled with Blokland box coolers in a closed loop system filled with anti-freeze. So never weed filters to clean!
Water pressure system with Speck Pumpenmeister plunger pump and pressure tank.
Stainless steel water tanks.
The steering is hydraulic with two large double acting cylinders.
Navigation equipment include a Sailor RT144 VHF unit and an AIS Transponder with very large screen so all surrounding traffic can been seen.
The boat is heated by a Somy diesel heater and radiator. The system has no pumps and works with natural circulation. It does not use any electricity.
For the classic look the flooring is made of massive mahogany wood and the walls and ceiling are of white painted pinewood with mahogany trim.
From the wheelhouse with seating area of 8 people a staircase decends to the 'winter' living room with TV area, kitchen and office corner.
Further to the front you will find a separate toilet, a bathroom and two double cabins.
The table in the wheelhouse has a fixed pedestral but if this is replaced by a telescopic one by lowering the table a large double extra bed could be created. Also in the downstairs living room 2 could sleep.
The boat has 45 cm large gunwales with no steps or stairs and sufficient handrails for easy moving around in the locks or harbour.
The hull was completely stripped of paint and tar in 2012 and a professionnal Hempel Globic paint system applied.
The boat has been out of the water every 4 years, in 2023 for the last time. Inspection reports are available.
