Pastis is a unique barge on the French canals. She has been lovingly restored to pristine condition and features original woodwork throughout. Her length means she is easy to handle and can go on all the frech cannals and under all bridges. Her accommodation of 4 cabins and three bathrooms is almost on the same level as the superb kitchen and seating area with double doors onto a wonderful aft deck which can easily seat ten for dinner. Unlike most other barges you live with 360 degree views across the water and not down in the hold. She is a complete live aboard and we are very reluctant to part with her, but after many years on her in France, we plan to return to Australia in our late retirement.
The barge came out of the water in April 2008 for a full survey and any required work was done. She is lying in Roanne - viewing is highly recommended. Would suit syndicate.

A very strong and quality built Connoisseur Class cruiser from the very well regarded Porter and Haylett boatyard. which has provided us with a comfortable holiday home in the South of France.
The interior has a light and airy lounge and a well equipped kitchen area, separate nicely furnished double bedroom with en suite shower (with baby bath) and a bathroom with toilet and wash basin.
Since buying the boat it has only been used by ourselves, a retired couple, and our family. and has been looked after with loving care. It officially sleeps 2+1 ( bedroom and sofa) though we have family who don't mind a double airbed in the lounge as well!
A popular feature is the sliding roof, which allows for either enclosed or open air steering. The rear section of roof is used for lounging on as well, having two seats and a sun lounger mattress. We ourselves had safety rails fitted, with safety netting in the front and dodgers (wind breaks) at the rear. Both front and rear comfortably take the sun chairs and umbrellas.
Poppy is registered in our names with the Small Ships Register, and there is no mortgage on the boat. Insurance costs 220 euros per year.
The canal licence costs 220 euros per year, and has been paid for this season.
The boat is at present in the centre of Narbonne, which for us has been an ideal base. The mooring we are on is on a month to month basis,and costs 120 euros per month, including all electricity and water. The section of canal we are on is shown in the Narbonne photograph, with a photograph of the nearby lock.
We take advantage of cheap Ryanair flights to Carcassonne, and after a two hour flight we have just a half hour train journey to Narbonne, The canal is a fifteen minute walk from the station, or 8 euros by taxi. Couldn't be better.
The journey is so cheap and easy that we visit frequently for some winter sun, even though the locks are closed out of season. It really is a second home in France.
Narbonne is on the Canal de la Robine, which runs right down to the coast at Port La Nouvelle, So the options include cruising the whole canal network, which joins the Med to Calais, or staying locally and taking in the beaches as well. Or just tie up anywhere along the canal, and stay put.

sea otter aluminium dutch barge..cat.c... cross channel and coastal..as far as i am aware this is the only sea otter classified cat.c.. fully equipt full time liveaboard.cruiser..large wheelhouse..all windows d/glazed..woodenframes..we have lived on board full time for four and a half years with no problems ..no rusting..no painting..just oil the woodwork twice a year..the paint is as good as the day it left the builders in 2005..just the right size for canals and marinas..time to get a house and settle down.. if you are interested contact me for full spec. and inventory..if you want to know about aluminium for boats visit sea otters site....why aluminium...it explains the advantages..... |
