THIS IS THE ONE that ticked all the boxes for us after years of searching everywhere for the right traditional boat to replace our beloved, but large, Dutch barge of 17 years. This one is the perfect size and spec for today's cruising and mooring conditions in France – being easily manageable, in very good condition, and with character, style and unpretentious quality.

‘Cadenza’ is compact with broad beam, nearly all one level (3 shallow steps in the middle), versatile accommodation with good headroom, well insulated, light & airy, with good visibility (for watching the water seated in the wheelhouse), shallow draft, (above and below water, making most waterways accessible), wide side decks for safe walking to and fro, flat roofs, ability to handle stern ropes from the safety of the cockpit (4 sq,m of sociable space leading from the wheelhouse on same level – making for easy access and communication fore and aft). Crafted in Holland to a very high standard several decades ago, the solid teak interior would be prohibitive to build today.

To assure a high standard and minimise future maintenance, the whole boat was sandblasted and repainted with International epoxy paintwork in 2007/8. New canopy and awning, and welded ladder rings on rudder. Efficient central heating system with new boiler, also new gas and water systems, and upgraded electrics.

Currently lying on the Yonne at Migennes, Burgundy, ready to go, and handily placed for the Bourgogne & Nivernais Canals.
